Why are endusers not (adequately) involved in UX development processes - even though everybody agrees it is a good idea?
This is the question we want to answer in a research project at UCL University College. We are researching specifically in two areas - UX for automation and UX development with web accessibility. In both areas we are looking for barriers which hinder the involvement of endusers in UX development processes. Through our network of former students within the UX field as well as UX decision makers we are conducting interviews to find out how user experience is perceived and involvement performed, if at all. Our preliminary results indicate three main barriers: organisational barriers, lack of resources and a barriere within decision making structures.
Though this is still at a very early stage, we are also looking to suggest solutions which takes these barriers into account in a fashion which is feasible for an SME.
The presentation will show preliminary results and highlight benefits, as well as barriers. It will be relevant for UX researchers, designers as well as decision makers involved in UX processes.
