There is something paradoxical about our time. We are obliged by the imperative to act; we must buy more stuff, invent new solutions, be the best versions of ourselves, optimize, improve, enhance etc. We act frenetically, and it could almost seem like the only real alternative would be to unplug and stop acting altogether. However, at the same time, we are in fact in need of acts, maybe even radical acts that would change the very conditions of the world we live in and the problems we face. In this workshop we unfold a diagnosis of the present by focusing on the way we act (and do not act), asking some pressing questions: Which superego injunctions cause the compulsive repetitions and hectic activity in contemporary society? Can we still make sense of “true acts” that suspend or even change the conditions of our lives? What does it mean to act as an artist, and which kinds of artistic acts are needed today? The workshop will consist of presentations, discussions, a ”symptom jam”, and (maybe) a vision for a new way of acting.
