Inclusive Education in a World That Hurries

Can Slowness Sustain Belonging and Resist Exclusion? Education often moves at a hurried pace, driven by outcomes and efficiency. But what might we discover if we pause? This international webinar invites us to explore how slowing down can create space for belonging, especially for those too often overlooked in educational communities or excluded from educational settings. We ask not only who is included but how: how time, pace, and attentiveness can nurture belonging, and how they are constrained by systems that prioritise measurement over meaning.

This event brings inclusive education into conversation with “slow pedagogy,” opening a space for dialogue rather than fixed answers. Crucially, we also invite critical perspectives: does “slow” always help, or can it risk exclusion in certain contexts? How relevant is “slow” across different cultural, political, and educational settings? By welcoming both advocates and challengers of “slow,” we aim for a rigorous, global interrogation of its possibilities and limits.

Contributions will also lead to an edited collection, Slow Inclusion in Education, which we intend to submit to Routledge.
