The Danish educational system from nursery to university is primarily formed by three trains of thought: The German pedagogical theory of Bildung, the specific Danish Protestant tradition of Grundtvigian enlightenment, and the progressive and democratic ideas of new education. However, during the last 20 years these traditions have been challenged by OECD homogenization and the tradition of curriculum teaching. In this seminar, the challenges raised by these developments will be outlined, and we will discuss similarities and differences between educational systems in Europe.
