In social work, our primary focus is not on musical training or development of musical knowledge. The most important issue is, in what way a human´s musical abilities are connected and can contribute to her learning and development as a cultural being. Therefore, in our education different form for music activities should be understood as tools for learning and development in general. That is why our educational approach to music and musical knowledge has been conceptualized as “formative music." In the following, I will briefly describe how our design of education through reflective practice, can be understood as a form of action research.
