Learning outside the classroom” addressing schoolteachers from Europe (7-13 y)

Course description:
Udeskole is the Danish word for teaching outside the classroom. Udeskole can be defined as a broad term for teaching, based on the national curriculum that regularly and over a long period is conducted outside the classroom, beyond the school walls. Outdoor education builds on an interplay between outdoor and indoor activities. The students´ acquisition of knowledge and skills is enhanced through experiences, action, dialogue, and reflection related to problem-solving and student-centered learning activities. Udeskole seeks to put body, language, and senses into action outside the classroom to evoke curiosity and authenticity as paths to recognition and learning. During lectures we aim to explain the theory behind udeskole, and to give examples of udeskole as it can be practiced. The examples given will primarily be taken from the subjects: danish (L1), history and english as a foreign language. Since udeskole also comprises learning in museums, the course comprises also visits to museums in Aarhus. And last but not least: we have organized visits to udeskole-experienced schools in Aarhus.
