Advisory Board, project: Professional Development and Preschool Quality.

Early childhood education and care (ECEC) educators1 continuing professional development (PD) is proven to be a decisive factor for strengthening preschool quality to meet children’s interests and needs. Despite this, building robust evidence for the most effective models of educators' PD is still challenging. Questions regarding the content, organizational context, design, and delivery of PD for ECEC educators remain unanswered. In the Swedish ECEC context, educators' continuing PD is still not obligatory. It varies across and within
municipalities and often does not reach its goals. How this diversity is represented and how multiple components of continuing PD efforts are associated with preschool quality remain relatively unexplored. Therefore, the purpose of this project is to fill this gap by focusing on PD efforts undertaken to enhance preschool quality in Sweden, tackle the existing PD diversity, and learn more about what components of each of these PD efforts promote educators' improved competence and practice.
