Beskrivelse

Physiotherapy (PT) students experience high levels of psychological stress during education and often need to support complex patients in distress. Entry-level physiotherapists lack knowledge within mental health that may affect their ability to cope with increasing levels of stress in their personal life and clinical practice. The purpose of this project is to investigate how a 5-days intensive course (IC) for strengthening mental resilience impacts students’ perception in their stress, resilience, and self-efficacy. Students will be invited to participate in this course and participate on the study. Evaluation of students’ heart rate variability (HRV), patient-reported outcomes will assess the course's impact on perceived stress, resilience, and self-efficacy and a course evaluation survey will assess students´ perception of the topic. The IC will adopt an approach to support students understand and experience how mind-body approaches can affect their well-being. The students will practice concepts such as the cognitive diamond model, windows of tolerance, allostatic load, interoceptive awareness, neuroplasticity mechanisms induced by exercise and body-mind practices. An 8-weeks follow-up will be carried out integrated the practices in their daily routine and the impact of the practices in the investigated parameters. This IC will support the development of similar courses in PT programs helping students develop their mental resilience and be better equipped to support their clients to do the same. This project is funded by Nordplus Higher Education NPHE-2024/10066. Ethical committee approval is under evaluation.
