What constitutes a “professional soldier” in the 21st century? Gone are the mere demands of obedience by the means of wristwatch-reading capability and trigger-pulling capacity in highly lethal environments of limited battlegrounds. The professional soldier of the globalized, privatized and mediatized soldier fighting insurgents, managing aid, building roads and schools and providing protection in election processes.
Soldiers in the field battle concrete paradoxes and dilemmas with soldierly means.
This presentation gives us a first-order perspective on second-order paradox managements in combat and warfare.
