Beskrivelse
Bed baths are offered to acute ill patients if they cannot get out of bed during hospital admission or hospital at home. Bed baths ensure the patients’ personal hygiene. In Denmark Soap and water (SAW) have gradually been replaced using disposable wet wipes (DWW). Evidence about SAW and DWW from the nursing staff’s perspective are important elements in nursing staff’s shared clinical decision-making (CDM) regarding choice of washing method for a bed bath
The objective of this study will be, through in‐depth qualitative interviews, to explore and nuance nursing staff’s experiences, satisfaction with and preferences for either SAW or DWW used for bed baths.
The overall aim of this study will be to provide new insights into the use of SAW and DWW for bed bath from the nursing staffs perspective to provide a firmer foundation for shared clinical decision making (SCDM) and thereby contribute to increased quality of SCDM regarding bed bath practices for bedridden patients.
The evidence related to washing methods, as an increasing technology, are important to provide bedridden patients qualified and person-centered care (13). Providing person-centered care, is respectful of and responsive to individual patient preferences, needs, and values, and ensuring that patient values guide all clinical decisions.
