Beskrivelse

An annual gathering for digital art, animation, and critical creative research at Viborg Animation Festival
The Digital Art Symposium (DAS) is an annual event held during the Viborg Animation Festival (VAF) in Viborg, Denmark. Organized by PLASTIC Collective in collaboaration with The Animaiton Workshop – VIA University College, DAS convenes leading artists, researchers, technologists, and cultural thinkers to explore how digital art and animation shape — and are shaped by — contemporary society.
Each edition highlights emerging practices within animation, interactive media, artistic research, and digital culture, framing animation not only as an entertainment form but as a critical, cultural, and intellectual tool. Through panels, talks, guided conversations, and artistic presentations, DAS examines how animated and computational images contribute to dialogues on identity, ethics, technology, mental health, sustainability, and community engagement.
A Platform at the Intersection of Art, Research & Social Reflection
DAS builds on Viborg’s reputation as a City of Animation by inviting practitioners who push the medium into new territories — from immersive installations and animated documentary to VR experiences, game-based storytelling, architectural activism, and interdisciplinary research.
Curated and hosted by PLASTIC Collective, the symposium offers a space where artists and audiences meet to question, challenge, and expand what digital art and animation can do.
