Gi De Unge Ordet - Håb i en Coronatid

The project ‘Gi de Unge Ordet’ centers mainly around the creation of a short semi-animated Tik-Tok style video, based on the results from a workshop held at the Akademiet for Talentfulde unge at part of the project Transparent Together / Data om dig og de andre. At the end of the workshop the young participants defined 40 advice for coping with lonelyness during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The end result - a 26-second video - was based around creating fun and silly scenarios showing advice that teenagers came up with themselves in a workshop, on how to cope and make the best of their time within Coronavirus Lockdown. The target audience and scope of the video is to spread awareness of achievable things one can do to improve their daily lives, in the teenager’s words themselves - in a very casual manner from one teen to the other.

The tone is silly and includes a wide cast of wacky animated characters in order to grab attention and make the viewer feel less like they’re being lectured to and instead, make them feel entertained and like some fun can still be had during the lockdown.
The project was spearheaded by Jakob Borrits Sabra, with the animation and editing team consisting of Inez Kristina Baldacchino & Jesper Andkjær Poulsgærd. The actor in the video is Mikkel Thorsøe, and further facilitation of the project was overseen by Mathias Sejerkilde.
Overall, we are pleased by the end result as it manages to achieve its goal of being light and entertaining. The process of animating and compositing was extremely fast once we got over the initial hurdle of finding the actor and directing him to create the live action shots necessary for us to continue. Finding a young actor proved to be more difficult and time consuming than we had anticipated, owing to people not responding or being interested in taking part further beyond their initial time at the workshop.Another observation made is that the project came about a little late into the pandemic - the restrictions were really easing up when the project was finished, with vaccines already starting to be rolled out. Of course, nobody can predict how any of this was or will go, as the situation is always a little bit unstable until significant time passes.Also, we have still yet to hear from the focus group whether our ideas and aims actually achieve their goals in entertaining and educating teenagers in a short, bite-sized format.In conclusion, we hope that this video will still be seen and be useful to our target audience. We had a good time creating it and we also think that the format of short live action clips with animated characters can be appropriated for other uses in the future.
