HealthTalk - the telephone as a clinical tool for people with low health literacy

eHealth is about to transform health services fundamentally by giving patients better access to knowledge of their health conditions. Patients with low health literacy will not benefit from this development as they lack access, means and knowledge of eHealth.
HealthTalk tries to solve this problem by offering an innovation on how health professionals use the telephone when servicing persons with low health literacy. While this group of patients are habile users of telephones, the health professionals lack knowledge and communication competencies on how to use the telephone clinically when dealing with them.
We create the innovation by investigating the existing clinical use of telephones. We identify the knowledge and competencies needed to improve existing praxis and develop a tailored innovation for health professionals in the municipality and hospitals. Then we test the innovation and create a manual for implementing it throughout Denmark.
