Beskrivelse
ICON was an informal grouping of researchers at Danish institutions (coordinated at Aarhus University, Department for Philosophy and the History of Ideas) with the aim to carry out a new research initiative, which consisted in the combination of:
•intercultural value studies, a subfield of Comparative Philosophy or World Philosophy
•interdisciplinary interactions between psychology, anthropology, sociology, political science, and theology (religious studies) with recent research in the area of “Conflict Analysis and Transformation”, a subfield of International Relations.
ICON was to provide a platform for research exchange among Danish researchers but also a focus unit for:
•International research collaboration on intercultural ontology, value theory, and conflict studies
•Outreach activities: Consultation on intercultural communication and learning, for school teachers and businesses with international employees
ICON was also a member of the so-called Global Dialogue Project Group, a consortium of public and private sponsors which besides ICON included the Poul Due Jensens Foundation, Aarhus University, Aarhus Kommune, VisitAarhus Events. The consortium organized conferences and and also the first bestowal of the Global Dialogue Prize (GDP) in 2009/2010. Since then organization behind the prize has been reorganized, so the prize has since then been organized by the Global Dialogue Council, an independent institution of academics who work pro bono. The latest bestowal of the prize took place in Athens in 2013 at the 23th world Congress of Philosophy
