Beskrivelse

Solar Walk is a project intended to create a high quality, live artistic performance which
combines original classical music, poetic songs, and animated images – all of which will
be produced by highly respected and awarded artists in each of those fields.
This innovative experimental project aims to create a strong artistic and emotional
experience for audiences of all ages by presenting a comparison between basic
human emotions and the immense forces and vast structure of our solar system.
Solar Walk is created by awarded music playwright and symphonic, Niels Marthinsen,
who has composed a highly original musical art piece. He collaborated in this effort
with the respected singer and song-writer Susi Hyldgaard, who has created 6
songs/chapters each of which represent different human emotions. Susi Hyldgaard
makes use of stylish poetry to connect human feelings to physical elements, (Annex 2)
meant to convey the feeling of a human being looking to the stars and perceiving
himself as a part of that imposing system. The songs aim to foster an experience of a
reflection on our lives and our relationship with each other.
Visual interpretations of the songs are to be created by Academy Award-nominated
animation director and remarkably talented artist Réka Bucsi. Réka will provide a visual
counterpoint to the songs through a 2D animated film, which will enhance and support
the musical performance and will create a dialogue that connects the two narratively,
rhythmically, and emotionally. Reka’s visual style is an extension of her personal being,
as can be seen in her latest films Symphony No.42 and Love (Annex 1). Reka’s
animated sequences are to be a delicate and subtle balance between a detailed
depiction of the cosmos that the viewer can experience and a human scale that
reaches people. The leading animation school in Scandinavia, The Animation
Workshop, together with the prestigious and award winning company Nørlum, are
assisting in building a frame around this vision, guiding the artist to bring physical space
to the lyrics.
The final piece will premiere in September 2017 during Aarhus Capital of Culture 2017 as
opening of the esteemed Viborg Animation Festival (VAF), and be performed by
Aarhus Jazz Orchestra, which is one of Europe's leading professional big bands and who
are of a high and internationally respected caliber, and member of the European
music circle.
Will follow a tour in Denmark, the 2nd and 3rd of October, and the 5th and 6th in
Copenhagen.
