Nursing-theories as a meaningful and clinical relevant foundation for reflection in nursing education.
Within nursing profession it has been discussed which nursing-theories students need to act professional in clinical practice. This article argues that students need theories from more than one level in order to reflect and comprehend reality and develop ability to act within a frame of good nursing.
Students often find it difficult to incorporate Meta-Theoretical nursing theories in reflection on practice. The article outlines how carefully selected Nursing Meta-Theories, implemented in nursing-curriculum, gives structure to the professional content in nursing science. The choice of theories demonstrates the progression in understanding nursing values as a basic dimension in nursing education. From a professional and pedagogical approach the authors argue for the choice of theories in relation to the increasing complexity throughout curriculum. In correlation with other theories, Meta-Theories accentuate the core of nursing and its normative foundation. Meta-theories complement other theories and are essential in understanding the material of nursing profession.
