Abstract

The project regarding the Voluntary Sustainability Class: Resource use on the construction site in collaboration with the industry, is related to the fact, that Denmark in The Paris Agreement together with other countries in the EU, have committed themselves to reducing their CO2 emissions by 70 per cent. in 2030, compared to emission in 1990. As a derivation of this, it has been decided in Denmark to introduce the Voluntary Sustainability Class, where over a test period leading up to the new Building Regulation (BR23) in 2023, various initiatives within the construction industry will be tested, with the aim of reduce CO2 emissions, as the construction industry is directly and indirectly responsible for approx. 30% of the total CO2 emission in Denmark, which amounts to approximately 50 million tons of CO2 annually.

FBK is voluntary for the industry to use, and the testing of the class has been postponed by the Housing and Planning Agency (Bolig- and Planstyrelsen) from the end of 2022 to the end of 2023. In a long term, it is assumed that the requirements in an adjusted form will be included in the Building Regulations. Therefore, in collaboration with the construction industry, we have investigated what challenges the industry see in relation to be able to document the requirements that are expected to come. We have also tested the collection of data in a limited research in collaboration with the industry. The study indicates that the industry, with the use of more resources, sees itself able to collect the required data, but that two of the sub-requirements in particular cause them difficulties both in relation to the documentation itself, but also in understanding the utility value of the documentation. FBK is voluntary for the industry to use, and the testing of the class has been postponed by the Housing and Planning Agency (Bolig- and Planstyrelsen ) from the end of 2022 to the end of 2023. In the long term, it is assumed, that the requirements in adjusted form will be included in the Building Regulations.
