Abstract
What is the pride of a city or a region? Often, the passionate texture of sports holds an important share of the hearts and minds of the population. In this podcast, Dan Rascher and Kenneth Cortsen discuss some of the economic elements tied to the recent success of the San Francisco 49ers and how their spot in the Super Bowl next week influences the local economy and the business model of the 49ers. The podcast will also touch upon aspects of other sports teams, e.g., the Golden State Warriors, from the Bay Area and make comparisons to collegiate athletics and will also dive into the differences between psychological and direct economic impact.

Daniel Rascher is a Professor and Director of Academic Programs for the distinguished Sport Management Program at the University of San Francisco. Dan teaches sports economics and finance and also serves as the President of the company SportsEconomics. His clients have included organizations involved in the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, MLS, PGA, NCAA, AHL, sports media, minor league baseball, Formula One racing, CART, Premier League Football, local sports commissions, and various government agencies. He has authored articles for academic and professional journals, book chapters, and a text book within the context of sport management and sport economics, has been interviewed hundreds of times by the media for his opinion on various aspects of the business of sports, and has given over fifty presentations at professional and academic conferences. Dr. Rascher has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Sport Management, Sport Management Review, International Journal of Sport Finance, and the Journal of the Quantitative Analysis of Sports.
