Abstract
Introduction: The integration of digital technology in people's everyday lives creates opportunities for new interventions in health care. Information and communication technologies (ICT) are becoming increasingly important and can be useful for both prevention and in rehabilitation to promote health and engaging activities. The increasing complexity and use of technology has facilitated the performance of many daily life activities but also made them more complex and demanding. In order to access health care services, crucial challenges are associated with technology, (e.g. cell phones, cash machines). However this is also an opportunity where occupational therapy can play a major role in developing interventions using ICT, but the evidence-base is still sparse considering how to approach the subject and evaluate it. ICT as a tool to reduce borders.
Learning outcomes:
Reflect upon and gain knowledge about:
(1) How technology could be used in supporting interventions as in Uganda (mobile phones) and Sweden (tablets)
(2) The challenges and opportunities in the use of ICT from a multicultural perspective
(3) Current international research in this area, and how this can be implemented into practice
(4) The use of new, innovative assessments and intervention strategies and how these can support evidence-based intervention planning in practice
