Facilitators and barriers to everyday life among community-dwelling older adults with multimorbidity: Aaqualitative systematic review

Multimorbidity is highly prevalent among older adults and is associated with increased treatment burden, functional decline, and healthcare use. Despite growing attention to multimorbidity, healthcare systems are still largely organized around single diseases, which may not adequately support older adults living with multiple chronic conditions.

Understanding how older adults experience facilitators and barriers to everyday life while living with multimorbidity is therefore essential to inform person-centered care, rehabilitation, and community-based support. Synthesizing qualitative evidence can provide a deeper understanding of these experiences and identify factors that support older adults in living well at home. By synthesizing this qualitative evidence, this review will identify which facilitators and barriers community-dwelling older adults living with multimorbidity perceive as influencing their everyday life.
