Abstract

In this age of global and social media young people are constantly exposed to a massive flow of information and multiple versions of reality, some of which can be controversial or even disturbing. Students today not only consume the media, but actively use them and produce content in many different ways. From an educational point of view this raises the question of how to strengthen young peoples’ digital literacy (Alvermann 2010; Buckingham 2007; Dezuanni 2015; Lanksheare & Knobel 2011; Pangrazio 2016; Selwyn, 2011). Critical thinking and analytical skills are increasingly addressed in the debate as important competencies to support and develop among students throughout the school system (Bundsgaard 2014; Pangrazio, 2016).
