Abstract
Instead of perceiving engagement as something employees become after listening to inspiring talks of CEOs and managers, in this chapter, engagement is suggested to emerge from interactions between employees and between employees and managers. The chapter explores how and why employees get engaged while they discuss, solve problems and co-create ideas on internal social media. A case study in a Danish bank known for its open communication culture provides insights into the dynamics of communication on internal social media and employees’ perceptions of that communication. The study includes six months of netnographic studies of discussions on internal social media and interviews with 24 employees.
