Introduction

The introductory chapter of the book covers general topics common to all geophysical disciplines and provides a framing of the book with outlook to interfacing areas. Central in the introduction is a section on geophysical inversion for engineers. Inversion theory is closely related to most of the methods, and a fundamental understanding of the concept is necessary in order to assess results from geophysical surveys.
