Abstract
It is the aim of this article to show how some cancer patients get caught in the so
called welfare system of Denmark, simply because they have become too physically and/or mentally ill to meet the legal requirements of employment. Based on sociological analysis of a number of interviews, three cases are constructed. The analyses only take a user perspective. They show how, depending on a person’s position in society, he or she will have varying capacity and opportunities for meeting job center requirements. At present the Danish society seems to be moving towards workfare rather than welfare.
