Abstract
This article focuses on the position of the academic library within a university college. It poses the question of how the academic library proves its position as one of the facilitators of students’ informed learning. Thus the purpose of this article is to demonstrate the position of the academic library as an organic part of an educational organization and how information literacy can be mapped against curricula. Five ministerial orders on health are analysed in conjunction with Christine Bruce’s theory on information literacy. Further perspective is provided relating the analysis to the current work by the UCN Library on the Study Activity Model (SAM). Based on the analysis, it is evident that elements can be extracted to form part of an information literacy profile for undergraduate students at Bachelor of Health Education level. The article concludes that a student information literacy profile can contribute to an enhancement of the academic library as one of the facilitators of students’ informed learning.
