Abstract

This chapter presents a discussion of the needs to supplement the current technology-centric view on Industry 4.0 with an understanding of how to prepare the workforce for the new competences required in the future of manufacturing. The discussion is elaborated through an empirical analysis of 31 Danish manufacturing companies. This concludes that while many companies provide enabling learning environments, the lack of explicit competence strategies is widespread and causes unfocused and faltering exploitation of the potentials offered by Industry 4.0.
