Abstract
The topic for the research to be reported here is outdoor teaching integrating mathematics as part of a larger Danish research project 'Development of outdoor education' involving 30+ schools that get advice for their development of outdoor education on a current basis - and as reported here - also visits by researchers.
The aim is to examine teaching forms and contents in outdoor teaching integrating mathematics, and this setting’s influence on pupils experienced learning, motivation, well-being and physical activity. Teachers’ management of outdoor education is also part of the study.
Data were collected by observations, videos, interviews and questionnaires during 10 visits to four schools differing in size and settings 2015-16. A presentation will include:
A. Categorization of format and content of lessons observed.
B. Description and analysis of pupils' experiences as documented in interviews and questionnaires.
C. Description and analysis of teachers and school management's roles based on interviews and observations.
D. Recommendations for teacher education and in-service actions.
