    Abstract

A large number of Danes were placed in residential care institutions during the 20th century. During the placement, the persons were generally excluded from society and their stories and voices were hidden or ignored. In 2012 a project was initiated to collect and disseminate the voices of former placed persons. The dissemination was directed towards school children and students of social work and social education.
This article presents three dilemmas in connection to the dissemination of the placed persons voices. Issues related to vocabulary, didactical considerations and political sensitivity are presented and discussed. The main lesson of the dissemination project is that giving a voice to former placed persons is challenging but important. It is important to the former placed persons, to students of social work and social education who are the future caretakers of placed persons and democratic education of school children.
