Abstract

Involving patients, public and users in health education is currently receiving increased attention. The degree of involvement has changed over time as have the methods used to involve these groups in nursing education. The purpose of this scoping review was to identify and map available methods for patient, public and user involvement in nursing education. The review was inspired by the methodological framework of Arksley and O’Malley and Peters et al. Among the initial 8,791 articles identified, 22 were included. Data from the included studies were extracted and three thematic categories were identified: 1) Experts by experience, 2) Digital tools and 3) Curriculum planning and development. We identified 16 methods for patient, public and user involvement in nursing education. The findings provide an overview of these methods, which nursing educators may use.
