New collective knowledge in a practice context – real-life experiment with BIM and collaboration

Abstract

Knotworking is an emerging collaboration form in the built environment, which promises to encourage innovation at project level. In an EU project, knotworking type process will be held for the involved organizations to test, discuss, develop and evaluate new industry to test, discuss, develop and evaluate new methods, tools and products in order to ensure more sustainable and energy effective buildings in the future as well as give the participating organizations competencies in Knotworking.
However, specific considerations of how to facilitate the innovative processes during the Knotworking process need to be developed. Previous studies have focused on the knotworking process, rather than how to ensure performance during the process. Facilitation of Knotworking differs from the traditional facilitation of a design and construction process as the focus in Kontoworking is learning and innovating rather than problem solving.
This preliminary study reports the first findings of the facilitators role from a Knotworking process.
