In the last decades the Danish welfare system has been changing. Primary and municipal welfare system is undergoing
changes as the overall welfare system aims to reduce time that patients and citizens are using in hospital. These changes
have implications for welfare professionals and professionalism, but we don’t know much about how it potentially
influences the clinical education of nursing students in the primary welfare system.
Research has shown that practical education of welfare professionals takes place in a setting of multiple interests and
practices, and clinical education is seen as crucial educating professionals with professional identity, who can act on their
own in high-complexity settings. Yet about 20 % of the nursing students at the final semesters are in doubt whether they will
be practicing as nurses 5 years after their graduation due to e.g. conditions in the clinical education.
The project investigates in a practice theoretical and organizational ethnographic perspective how learning and acquisition
of professionalism in nursing education is being realized by analyzing structural logics in:
1) Macrostructural public discources related to practical and clinical education of danish welfare professionals. (14).
2) Field observations of the practical arrangement and the learning processes of nursing education at a meso- and
microinstitutional level in municipal primary welfare settings.
