Abstract

Research shows that students in the education for social science professions are experiencing a lack of coherence between the teaching and the actual demands that lies within the execution of their profession. In this article we focus on the development of a didactics that can support the acquiring of profession competencies for the students. Storyline is applied as the didactic method and is being tested through an educational experiment in the bachelor of social science. The framework provided by the Storyline method, with its professionally relevant, familar key questions and events, invites the students to step into a space that they are able to expand and investigate using their own experience. Storyline, in terms of learning and didactic considerations, shows great potential for the development of professional competencies, offering an investigative learning process that can link together the theoretical knowledge and the practical experience of the participants.
