Abstract
Teaching sustainability is encouraged by a wide range of stakeholders in and outside the educational sector. Increasingly, young people are expecting teachers to be competent in integrating the complex topics related to sustainability in lectures.
This paper concerns teaching activities at the teacher education, UCL University College in Denmark. The activities were conducted in the spring semester 2023 as integrated in pilot-activities in SustainComp project run by the University of Agder, Norway, Masaryk University Czech Republic. Ljubljana University, Slovenia and supported by Erasmus Plus. Interdisciplinary co-teaching was conducted by the two teachers, who were involved with their respective main-topics: English & Intercultural Competences (EIC) and Natural Science & Socio-scientific issues (SSI). Results indicated that students found the theme ‘Sandmining & Sustainability’ motivating and engaging. Moreover, students declared to have gained new insight in the relation between the environmental impact of sand mining and the impact on native populations’ livelihoods, health and education. In this paper, focus will be directed mainly to the didactical products from teacher students in the English class and the representation of students’ increased insights and intercultural understanding.
