Abstract
Nurses' experiences in nursing patients with ethnic minority background.
This study describes and explores the experiences of Norwegian nurses when nursing ethnic minority clients. Specific problems that occurred when caring for the clients are revealed. Three nurses were interviewed and a semi-structured interview and a thematic guide were used in the data collection. The results showed that all the nurses shared the same experiences. Communication failure led to an inability to provide holistic care for the clients. The three nurses often felt inadequate, frustrated and stressed. The results indicate that it is urgent to develope culturel knowledge, and that nurses must be guided ind the diffeculties occuring when caring for ethnic minority clients.
