The Rule of Mimetic Desire in Higher Education: The Effects of Governing the Bologna Process through Naming, Shaming and Faming

    Abstract

    Over recent decades, the possibilities of practicing traditional national education policies have radically changed. This change is proceeding at a tremendously fast rate and is the result of the influence of supranational agents and processes such as the EU and the Bologna Process. The paper argues that the initiation of the Bologna Process is a result of a need to circumvent the EU subsidiarity principle which brings about a shift in the design of governing consisting of persuasive incentive structures making actors co-opt themselves into the process.
