Abstract
An increasing number of transgender individuals seek gender reassignment treatment. Healthcare professionals often adhere to a binary understanding of gender, which can lead to inappropriate and discriminatory behavior towards patients. In response, a new Danish guide embracing a nonbinary gender perspective was introduced in 2017 and reevaluated in 2018. This study aims to explore the experiences of transgender individuals undergoing gender-modifying treatment within the healthcare system. Methodologically, the study is inspired by Reflective Lifeworld Research with descriptive analysis of semi-structured, in-depth interviews conducted with two transgender persons. The findings indicate that while transgender individuals generally have positive encounters with healthcare professionals, they feel insufficiently supported and guided regarding the psychosocial and sexual challenges arising from both the treatment process and gender incongruence.
