Abstract

This article is co-authored by two language teachers and a linguist and describes our common endeavour to create cross-linguistic learning spaces by applying a plurilingual approach to language teaching across the three language subjects Danish (L1), English (L2) and German (L3). The idea is to promote student language awareness through teacher collaboration which takes the form of joint planning of learning goals and activities implemented individually by each of the teachers participating in the project. We describe our aim in terms of the language awareness potential we wish to offer the participating 5th grade students, and provide examples of the actual experiences of the teachers in their language classrooms, and furthermore consider the prerequisites for teachers wishing to collaborate in similar ways. We conclude by offering an analysis of the cross-linguistic learning spaces that we found emerging for both teachers and students and by offering some thought on the future perspectives of this work.
