Abstract
BACKGROUND: This study addresses the first step in validation of the Danish version of the Assessment of Work Performance (AWP-DK). In Denmark, vocational rehabilitation and adequate return to work are supported by an active labour policy. The AWP-DK assesses a client’s observable working skills and provide scores on how efficient and appropriate the client performs a work assignment. Assessment tools in vocational rehabilitation must be relevant, useful and reliable.
OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to test content validity and utility of the AWP-DK and modify the culturally adaption.
METHODS: A questionnaire was answered by 11 occupational therapists and cognitive interviews with eight experts who answered the questionnaire were conducted. The experts rated the relevance of each items in the AWP-DK.
RESULTS: The AWP-DK was found to be a valid, comprehensive, relevant and easy to use in vocational rehabilitation. Assessing the skills in the item ‘physical energy’ and ‘mental energy’ were difficult to distinguish and the experts desired a training course in the AWP-DK.
CONCLUSIONS: The results indicates content validity and utility for the AWP-DK. Adaptions and modifications of the AWP-DK are required to support further testing of validity and reliability of the instrument.
Keywords: Occupational therapy, return to work, cognitive interview, skills, MOHO.
