This article is about a collaborative research project where lecturers in teacher training, teachers and school children were involved. The project focused on how EFL classrooms can support global citizenship through interdisciplinarity. We will elaborate on this focus through a substantiated discussion, practical ideas and a ready-to-use task that focuses on research competence and on intercultural competence in English language teaching. Working with interdisciplinary projects in language teaching seems to have an impact on pupils’ language development, the development of their intercultural communicative competence and their learning of new and more field-specific vocabulary (Gibbons, 2015).
