Research Programme for Rehabilitation Technologies (RehabTech)

The Research Programme for Rehabilitation Technologies (RehabTech) investigates and develops the use of technology in rehabilitation, with particular focus on assistive devices as well as everyday and welfare technologies. The aim is to strengthen individuals’ opportunities to carry out meaningful daily activities at home and in society.

With strong expertise in the application of technology, the programme acts as a link between technology developers, practice and users. Through research, development and implementation, RehabTech contributes to sustainable and applicable technological solutions that create value for citizens, practice and society.

The research programme is characterised by a practice-oriented, interdisciplinary and co-creative approach. Research activities are developed in close collaboration with, among others, municipalities, funding authorities, private companies, technological institutes, universities and technology users. Research designs and methods are applied for the development and evaluation of complex interventions.

RehabTech focuses in particular on:

  • promoting an optimal person–technology match in citizens’ everyday lives and rehabilitation processes

  • reducing the number of unused assistive devices and thereby addressing unmet rehabilitation needs and cost inefficiencies

  • supporting evidence-based funding practice with a focus on “best and most cost-effective” solutions (§112)

  • contributing to reducing health inequalities

  • developing, testing and implementing technology-facilitated rehabilitation solutions

The research programme is anchored in VIA’s Research Centre for Prevention and Rehabilitation and is headed by Head of Programme, Senior Associate Professor and PhD Tina Helle. Read more on the website.
