Programme for Balance and Falls
The Programme for Balance and Falls conducts research on balance and fall prevention among older people and other groups at increased risk of falling. The programme focuses on how balance can be strengthened and assessed accurately, and how falls can be prevented through targeted interventions.
The research is grounded in both everyday and professional contexts and examines how professionals can work systematically with balance and fall prevention as part of rehabilitative and/or preventive interventions. The programme contributes knowledge on how interventions can be planned and adapted to different target groups and contexts.
The programme is practice-oriented and conducts research in close collaboration with municipalities, practice settings and professionals. Research designs and methods are applied that make it possible to investigate the development, testing and implementation of interventions aimed at improving balance and preventing falls.
The programme focuses in particular on:
-
balance training for fall prevention
-
clinical tests for assessing balance, gait and functional mobility
-
professional practice in work with balance and fall prevention
-
population groups at increased risk of falls
The research programme is anchored in VIA’s Research Centre for Prevention and Rehabilitation. The programme is headed by Head of Programme, Senior Associate Professor and PhD John Kodal Brincks. Read more about the programme on the website: via.dk/forskning/pleje-og-rehabilitering/balance-og-fald.
