Organisation profile

The research project ForebygDemens (Prevent Dementia) conducts research and develops preventive interventions aimed at strengthening brain health and reducing the risk of cognitive decline and dementia. The project focuses on how lifestyle and health-related factors can help maintain cognitive function and support a good everyday life throughout the lifespan.

The research builds on new international knowledge on dementia prevention and examines how preventive interventions can be developed, tested and implemented in practice, particularly within municipal and healthcare contexts. We work with both individual and organisational perspectives and contribute knowledge on how professionals can support early intervention and prevention.

The research is characterised by a practice-oriented and interdisciplinary approach and is conducted in close collaboration with municipalities, practice settings, professionals and citizens. Research designs and methods are applied that make it possible to examine prevention in concrete everyday and practice contexts.

The research project focuses in particular on:

  • prevention of cognitive decline and dementia

  • lifestyle- and health-related interventions

  • early intervention and preventive practice

  • the role of professionals in dementia prevention

The research project is anchored in VIA’s Research Centre for Prevention and Rehabilitation. The project is headed by Senior Researcher and PhD Rikke Gregersen. Read more about the project on the website: via.dk/forskning/pleje-og-rehabilitering/forebyg-demens.
