Human First is a strategic partnership in the field of health between VIA University College, Region Midtjylland, Aarhus University and the 19 municipalities in the Central Denmark Region. The partnership aims to strengthen the interaction between research, development, education and clinical and municipal practice, grounded in concrete health challenges and with a focus on outcomes for citizens and patients.

Human First was established in 2018 and is organised with a chairmanship and a collaborative forum, as well as a number of cross-cutting focus areas. Three overarching focus areas have been initiated, each with significant societal and health relevance:

People with rehabilitation needs

Coherence between theory and practice

Diseases and injuries of the brain

Within each focus area, partner organisations collaborate across institutional boundaries in a range of project groups.

Human First is founded on two key prerequisites for health promotion, prevention and the treatment of disease: robust research-based knowledge and strong human resources. Students, lecturers, clinicians, researchers and practitioners engage in committed collaboration that creates synergy between education, development and practice. The ambition is to establish an agile and effective knowledge cycle in which new knowledge moves more rapidly from production to application, while practice simultaneously informs and shapes research.
