I earned my PhD in mathematics education in 2003. For the following decade, I worked primarily as a teacher educator in mathematics. In 2013, I was employed at UCC’s research department, and since then I have focused on development and research projects related to mathematics teaching and learning in primary and lower secondary education.
Additionally, I have undertaken various assignments for the Danish Ministry of Education, including serving as chair of the expert group established by the Ministry in 2022. I have also participated in evaluation committees for research projects, including those for the Independent Research Fund Denmark, as well as in other types of assessments, such as evaluations of PhD projects.
Research and development areas
My research focuses on how we can best support mathematics teachers' professional development. I am particularly interested in strengthening core teaching practices (e.g., in the project TEACOP) and integrating digital technologies—including programming and digital literacy—into mathematics education (e.g., in the Center for Digital Understanding. The goal is to create teaching that is both academically strong and relevant to students’ futures.
