Research and development areas

Filip Gertz Lysdal, PhD, FHEA has been an Assistant Professor at University College Absalon in Denmark since September 2024, and concurrently holds a position as External Lecturer in Engineering & Health at EPF School of Engineering in Paris, France.

His research lies at the intersection of biomechanics and clinical science, with a particular focus on large-scale pragmatic clinical trials where technology plays a central role in rehabilitation and injury prevention. He has led several research projects, including two major randomized controlled trials: one involving 510 athletes with ankle problems followed over nine months, and a recently completed one-year trial involving 210 recreational runners in London.

Filip brings strong international research experience, having served as a Research Assistant at the Institute of Biomechanics and Orthopaedics at the German Sport University Cologne. He later held a visiting research position at the National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine at Loughborough University in the UK, as part of his postdoctoral fellowship at DTU Construct (Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering), Technical University of Denmark. Until September 2024, he was a Senior Lecturer at St Mary’s University in London, with a 90% teaching allocation, where he was responsible for multiple modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has substantial teaching experience, including curriculum development and thesis supervision.

Filip holds a PhD in Biomedical Science and Engineering (2021), a Master’s degree in Sports Technology (2016), and a Bachelor's degree in Sports Science (2014) – all from Aalborg University. He also completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP) from St Mary’s University, Twickenham (2023), and was awarded Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) in recognition hereof.
