Research and development areas

In my research, I am driven by a profound curiosity to delve into the intricacies of how individuals learn and navigate the complexities of caregiving and caring situations in our lifeworld.

My research centers on individuals within their own homes, encompassing their relationships with relatives, and interactions with healthcare professionals.

I have investigated how older persons aged 80 or older, living alone, perceive receiving support and care from their children. Additionally, I have explored how the adult children of these older persons experience the responsibility associated with caring for their aging, ill parents. Finally, I have investigated the perspectives of both the older persons, and their children regarding the care and support provided by healthcare professionals in the primary sector.

This underscores a pressing need for heightened attention to the human aspects of care. Consequently, I am deeply committed to exploring ways to enhance the human dimensions of care in both education, practice and leadership.

Moreover, my research extends to a dedicated focus in fortifying nursing students’ understanding of the interconnectedness between theory and practice. Collaborating with colleagues, I have actively participated as a co-researcher and co-project leader in an action research initiative spanning the three nursing programs within UCL University College. We have introduced a new learning concept ‘Communities of Reflection’, where 2nd-semester students, their preceptors and faculty members convene to reflect on some of the challenges encountered by students in clinical practice. Our approach involves generating comprehensive data through various means such as observations, interviews, reflective writing, and research workshops, which we are presently analyzing and disseminating.

I have a strong profile in nursing and care both as a researcher and educator. I have published peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals. I am a co-author of two book chapters, where I have written about the research approach Reflective Lifeworld Research, alongside Professor Karin Dahlberg. Additionally, I have delivered numerous presentations and workshops at national and international seminars and conferences.
