Personal profile

Research and development areas

My research interest revolves around balance used to rehabilitate people living with chronic neurologic illnesses such as Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson's Disease. The field of research concerns questions on determining balance capacity and treating balance decline optimally. Falls occur most frequently during ambulation and often when attention is divided between more tasks. Hence, balance function should be assessed and targeted in ways that resemble these conditions. For that, valid tools to determine balance capacity and guide exercises are needed. My research approach is primarily quantitative and focuses on investigating the effect of balance training and validation of methods in existing and newly developed clinical tests and interventions. I am particularly interested in the approach presented in the Medical Research Council guidelines for Complex Interventions that emphasizes the involvement of clinical stakeholders in developing and implementing research.
