Laurits Rauer Nielsen is a Master of Science in Geography (by research) specialising in environmental and natural ressource management, specifically the management of invasive species combined with poverty eradication. He is trained in an interdisciplinary and multicultural context.

Concerning research and teaching Laurits works with natural disasters and climate-related incidents such as storm surges and flooding, including relevant mitigation and response efforts such as dykes and contingency planning involving citizens, among other things as spontaneous volunteers in the emergency phase of operations. Furthermore Laurits teaches interprofessional collaboration.

Laurits has working experience in the fieds of disaster and emergency relief, rescue work, preparedness and emergency management, recruitment and leadership of volunteers, statistics and teaching. Laurits is also an active volunteer in emergency management.
