Research and development areas

In my research, I am interested in education and Bildung for democracy. This includes the philosophical and theoretical integration of the concept of Bildung with broader sociological and critical theories, as well as an interest in the societal determinants of Bildung and its contribution to the development of democratic citizenship. Accordingly, my research engages with the relationship between Bildung, social justice, and human emancipation. I am particularly interested in questions concerning the human relationship with nature, diversity, equality and inequality, and how various forms of injustice are constituted, reproduced, and may be challenged within educational and pedagogical contexts. In addition, I examine how democracy, inequality, and marginalisation are addressed in education policy and public discourse.

• Illiberal tendencies and transformations in democratic values and forms of practice
• Anti-feminism and far-right extremism
• Bildung in relation to security policy, nation-building, and critical thinking
• Democratic Bildung from a critical and non-affirmative perspective
• Hegel’s dialectic at the intersection between Bildung thinking and critical theory

Teaching

I also teach the course Livsoplysning: Kristendomskundskab, idehistorie, medborgerskab og autoritet (Life Enlightenment: Religious Education, History of Ideas, Citizenship and Authority), as well as Health, Sexuality and Family Studies (SSF), both within the teacher education programme in Silkeborg.
