Personal profile

Research and development areas

My research focuses on physical, mental, and social health across the life course, with a particular emphasis on promoting and supporting individual opportunities for health and well-being. As program lead for Active Communities, I investigate how co-design and partnerships can be leveraged to develop health-promoting initiatives that generate tangible value for citizens, professional practice, and education.

The overarching aim of my research is to contribute to the development of sustainable health communities, where collaboration between municipalities and civil society, as well as nature as an active resource, are central components in health initiatives. The goal is not only to enhance individual health outcomes, but also to mobilize and engage local communities as co-creators of health and well-being.

Within the Active Communities research program, we identify, develop, implement, and evaluate both local and national public health initiatives aimed at promoting health equity and strengthening health literacy and competencies at individual and organizational levels. Our methodological approach includes action research, implementation research, and epidemiological methods, and is grounded in close collaboration with key stakeholders – including municipalities, civil society organizations, citizen groups, and educational institutions.

Through this research, we seek to understand how health is shaped within communities, and how new knowledge can be generated, shared, and applied across sectors for the benefit of both individuals and society at large.
